Scope
This addendum applies to US schools subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g.
A&O as a "school official"
Acorn & Orbit acts as a "school official" with a "legitimate educational interest" in performing services the school would otherwise perform itself. A&O:
- Acts only on the school's instructions with respect to education records.
- Does not re-disclose education records except as permitted by FERPA or expressly authorised by the school.
- Implements physical, technical and administrative safeguards consistent with industry standards.
- Cooperates with the school in responding to parent or eligible-student requests for access, correction or hearing.
Directory information
Schools may designate certain information as "directory information" under FERPA. The school controls the configuration of what is shared via the platform.
